Students empowered by Race for Life event

Earlier this month, 16 female performing arts and musical theatre students took part in Race for Life’s Pretty Muddy event in partnership with Yorkshire Sport Foundation.

Joined by the college’s Get Active team, the students completed a series of 10 training sessions beforehand and raised in excess of £650 for Cancer Research. They were amazing on the day, embracing the very wet and muddy conditions and worked as a team to complete the race.

Student, Matilda Osborne, said: “I loved being part of something so positive. It was so much fun and felt so good to be raising money and awareness for cancer, I will definitely be wanting to do this next year! Thank you to everyone who gave us the opportunity.”

Student, Lauren Dwyer, added: “Seeing everyone there with the names of the people they were running for was empowering, and reminded me of the emotional connection to the run. Every person was so determined and encouraging, it made the experience that much more enjoyable!”

Following the race, some of the students have been inspired to continue running with the Yorkshire Sport Foundation, providing funding for 10 places to enter the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10km race in July 2018.
