Student travels far to reach her goal

Talented sports student, Chantelle Butt, left her Guernsey home for a life in Leeds to study and play football. Her dedication and passion paid off as she was rewarded Sports Student of the Year at Leeds City College’s Star Awards 2017.

Chantelle joined the college when she found out about the exciting Football Academy that allows students to train in a professional setting. She said: “I decided to move to Leeds in 2015 as I knew there would be more opportunities for me. I have been studying the Sport Performance and Excellence course at Park Lane Campus, which has really put in a fantastic position to pursue a career as a Sports Therapist.

“My parents were initially worried about me moving and living independently but that soon changed when they realised how supportive the college environment was. I still can’t believe that I was awarded Sport Student of the Year out of so many talented students.”

Chantelle will now be heading further south to study Sports Therapy at the University of Essex.

Kim Martin, Head of Sport at Leeds City College, said: “Chantelle is an exemplary student who always strives to be the best she can. She’s a pleasure to teach and manages to balance her studies, football and part time job extremely well. I’m excited to see what her future holds.”
