Leeds City College welcomes new artist-in-residence
Leeds City College has appointed a new artist-in-residence to work on an exciting creative project for the new campus at Quarry Hill, which is set to be complete for the 2019-20 academic year.
Levi Hanes has an impressive background in art and holds a PhD on slapstick comedy in contemporary art practice from the Huston School of Film & Digital Media. Originally from Oregon, USA, Levi’s passion for art developed from the age of 16, after being inspired by his art teacher Ms Lloyd.
Since then, he has worked on numerous projects, from Turner Prize winning Jeremy Deller’s inflatable Stonehenge to installations at Glasgow Botanic Gardens.
Levi is now excited to be putting his creative talents into this role: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with staff and students for ideas and inspiration. I’m looking forward to seeing the end product.
“I would love to eventually go into teaching, which would enhance my practice and allow me to impart my knowledge on to the next generation of creative artists.”
Kevin O’Hare, Head of Visual & Digital Arts at Leeds City College, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Levi on board. His work has a unique quality, injected with playfulness and humour.
“We want to create something that will have an impact and pique curiosity, so I can’t wait to see plans and ideas develop. Watch this space.”
