IT student lands job at Leeds City Council

The IT department’s close relationship with Leeds City Council has been thriving in recent years, allowing the development of exciting opportunities for students.

The council recently ran a work placement scheme with their digital support team, leading to full time jobs for students at the end of their course. The latest student to successfully gain employment with them is Sam Shaw.

He said: “I am very grateful for the opportunity that I was given by the IT department at Leeds City College to spend two weeks at the council. Not only did this allow me to gain experience in a working environment, but also put the skills that I had learnt at college into action.

“I was made welcome by staff at the council and was supported throughout the experience by my tutors at college.

“They showed me the office side of work, along with numerous areas throughout the IT departments. This included looking at the data store in which the council hosts some of its servers as well as backed up data.

“Overall I would highly recommend that anyone with an interest in IT grab this opportunity with both hands, in order to gain much needed experience and the chance of an apprenticeship to develop further.”
