Fight the climb in cybercrime at Cyber Defenders this July

Leeds City College is hosting its second annual summer school for students.

Working with government run initiative, Cyberfirst Defenders, they are addressing the skills gap within the cyber security industry.

With an emphasis on female students, the college will be running a week long non-residential summer school between 8-12 July for 14-17 year olds with an interest in computing.

The event will complement the GCSE computing curriculum, taking it a step further, offering practical methods to help protect and secure everyday devices, apps and software. It will be delivered in a unique and innovative way, breaking down the barriers of complex jargon and making computer science a fun and attractive subject.

The students will have hands-on experience of cyber security and the opportunity to learn how to protect themselves and their own family network and will receive a certificate for completing the summer school.

With over 8,500 digital technology companies, 70,000 people employed in the sector and the UK’s only independent internet exchange outside of London, Leeds is a major technology hub.
