Art & Design students get festive with Leeds Art Gallery

Art & Design students have been working on a project in partnership with Leeds Art Gallery. They have created a festive tree, based around the theme of sustainability and the over-production of wooden materials. The work is inspired by artist, Joseph Beuys and the Woodland Trust.

The level 1 students have created their own trees made out of paper materials and re-imagined them as natural trees. They used painterly techniques to re-purpose paper as natural green trees and used a cone shape, often associated with Christmas trees. The students brought the work together to create a festive tree that reflects the themes of sustainability.

The work was installed at Leeds Art Gallery by hanging it in an unusual way to simulate trees coming out of the wall, creating an environment that resembles nature’s force returning to take its place in the gallery space.
