Sheharyar Mir- Entry Level IT & Foundation degree in Applied Computing
Sheharyar Mir, 24, proves that hard work and dedication really does pay off. Starting off as an Entry Level IT student back in 2007, Sheharyar climbed the education ranks, achieving seven qualifications from Leeds City College, including a degree.
Sheharyar lives in Leeds and currently works at Leeds City College as a School Admin Assistant for the Creative Arts department. The qualifications he gained during his time as a student include Entry Level IT, Level 1, 2 and 3, Functional Skills for Maths and English, Foundation Degree in Applied Computing and a BSc.
One of Sheharyar’s proudest moments was being awarded ‘Student of the Year’ in 2014 for his hard work and commitment. Following his success in the Foundation Degree course, he was able to continue studying for a BSc (hons) in Applied Computing, which he graduated from last year.
He explains that it if you really want to achieve something you can: “After completing my Entry Level IT course, it made sense for me to progress on to the next levels. Once I was awarded my Level 3 qualification, I applied for a Foundation Degree in Applied Computing but soon started to get anxious as I thought it would be too difficult for me to complete.
“I was about to withdraw from the course due to reservations and lack of confidence but thanks to my course tutor’s encouragement and positivity as well as support from my family, I was inspired to go ahead, and I’m glad I did. The supportive environment built up my self-belief and I was able to push myself to achieve my goal.”
He now uses his skills in his current role and aims to continue developing and supporting the college’s computing needs.
