Rebecca Richardson- Level 3 Extended Diploma Performance and Excellence Pathway Year 1
Our students excel in many extra-curricular activities alongside studying at Leeds City College.
Rebecca Richardson, 17, is part of the GB Junior and Senior Synchronised swimming team and also studies the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Performance and Excellence Pathway Year 1 at the college.
Rebecca started out practicing speed swimming before taking up synchronised swimming aged seven. The sport has given Rebecca opportunities to compete at a high level and travel to amazing countries including Azerbaijan, where the team competed in the first European Games.
The Performance and Excellence course is beneficial to her swimming as it provides pathways into gaining more performance skills and psychologically it has improved her techniques when swimming.
Rebecca is the only member from Leeds and has to manage her training schedule- attending sessions every week in high performance centres based in Surrey, whilst maintaining her studies.
The environment at Leeds City College has made this easier for her as she’s found it easy to make friends and the tutors on the course are really supportive of her swimming ambitions.
As part of the GB team Rebecca has competed in 10 high level competitions including the likes of the British Championships and the European Qualifiers in Istanbul where they placed 3rd.
She enjoys the competitions particularly as they keep her motivated and disciplined which is something she takes forward with her studies.
The next step for Rebecca is pursuing her swimming in the hopes of completing a scholarship in America.
