Lauren Holmes’ learning journey has seen her travel from college onto an apprenticeship and then into full-time employment.
Lauren went to study a two year Travel & Tourism course at Leeds City College straight from school.
“I've always had an interest in the travel industry and when I looked into the course, I felt like it was the best option for me,” Lauren, 21, said.
Lauren really enjoyed her time at college, getting a real insight into all aspects of the industry.
“It made me realise there was so much more to it than I initially thought.”
She particularly enjoyed the overseas opportunities associated with the course, in particular a 10 week work placement at a Spanish hotel, which gave her valuable “hands on experience and independence.”
Lauren said she grew in confidence with the help of tutors, who were extremely supportive, which was invaluable when it came to going for job interviews.
After college, Lauren secured a retail apprenticeship with Thomson Holidays (TUI UK) and is now working as a travel advisor at a Leeds branch.
“My college course has really helped me with my job, especially the knowledge I picked up from the various destinations I visited.”
And thought she not quite lost the travelling bug, Lauren is busy enjoying helping others to plan their travels.
