We are lucky to have a vibrant arts scene in Leeds underpinned by some exceptional organisations. This combination opens up some remarkable work experience opportunities for our students. This year level 2 students Adrian Derucki, Aliyah Shabbir, Kelly Rhodes and Tania Cobbinah have worked with The Tetley, The Art Gallery and East Street Arts. Tania who spent 3 weeks with East Street Arts helping to set up the innovative new Art Hostel in Leeds said “I really loved working with ESA, it’s given me a brilliant insight into how an arts organisation works. I really want to do this in the future”
15 handpicked students from across creative arts have just spent two weeks working on a project with the professional arts community of Leeds. They have visited West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Tetley, Northern Ballet, East Street Art and The Discovery Centre before creating some new digital resources for use by these institutions.
Of course London’s theatre land has a worldwide reputation. Competition is fierce but two Technical Theatre students have been chosen for a placement in the props department at the National Theatre in London this summer. Another student on the same course leaves this week to start work in the West End on the smash hit musical Matilda.
Our creative arts students are also making their presence felt in the local media as two Photography students have been retained by Leeds List to produce images and three Journalism students are writing for Tidyguides.com
Two of our performing arts students got a taste of fame when they appeared in Britain’s Got Talent as part of the lively dance trio Mythical Ones.
