Governance

Leeds City College became a legal entity on 1 April 2009 when the corporations of Leeds Thomas Danby College, Leeds College of Technology and Park Lane College Leeds and Keighley simultaneously dissolved and the new Leeds City College corporation was created. Joseph Priestley College subsequently merged with Leeds City College on 1 August 2011.

The Leeds City College corporation (referred to as the Group Board or the Board of Governors) is an independent Further Education (FE) corporation, established under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 (the Act). The corporation is administered under Instrument and Articles of Government which are statutory instruments made under the Act which set out the rules for the constitution and operation of the corporation and the machinery for college decision-making.

Leeds City College is a member of the Luminate Education Group, to find out more about governance at the Luminate Education Group click here or contact Melanie Halstead, Clerk to the Board, on 0113 386 1808 or by email at melanie.halstead@luminate.ac.uk for more information.

Luminate Education Group Governance Structure

A scheme of delegation ensures clear dissemination between the work of the Group Board (Board of Governors) and the other boards and committees and how each fulfils its responsibilities and commitments to each other to ensure the success of the group. It provides clear parameters for decision-making on statutory, financial, quality and curriculum matters.

Each board/committee comprises members from a range of backgrounds and their experience and strategic skills are crucial to the effectiveness and success of the individual organisations they govern and the group overall.
