Zainab Tariq returned to education after eight years, to embark on a new adventure following a challenging time in her life.

The 26 year old enrolled on the Access Foundation course a couple of years ago after the breakdown of a difficult marriage, and is now on her way to working in the law industry.

Zainab said: “After experiencing a tough time, I realised that my own growth and education is the way forward and the key to success.

“Coming back to education has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and my time at the college has been great. The support and facilities have helped me develop and improve communication and research skills.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Access Foundation course and received brilliant support from my tutors. My strengths lie in English and citizenship, and both my tutors; Jennifer Wright and Fitim Emini, not only extensively supported and encouraged me throughout the course, but are two inspirational individuals who I look up to, respect and view as my teachers for life.

“I managed to achieve grade 8 in English and a 7 in citizenship with the help they consistently gave me. I would not be the changed and determined person I am today without their encouragement. These subjects also play a fundamental role in my particular choice of career.”

Zainab is now studying the Access to HE Law course and aspires to become a solicitor, specialising in family law.

“My unfortunate experience of marriage has instilled in me an ambition of working for the rights of women and children in the future and protecting the vulnerable in society.

“I truly believe the steps I took in joining Leeds City College and deciding to study law, have been life-changing, to say the least. I shall carry with me the experiences and knowledge I have gained during my time at the college and the incredible and consistent support I have received. It is truly a privilege to be part of this institution.”
