What is a Supported Internship?
Supported Internships are a structured, work-based study programme for 16-24 year olds with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The programmes’ aim is to support students to gain paid employment by equipping them with the skills they need for work, through learning in the workplace.
Learners will spend 2 days in the workplace, learning real skills and 1 day in college focusing on English, maths and employability skills. Learners will be supported by our expert job coaches throughout the programme. Each learner will follow a personalised study programme alongside their time at the employer.
The internship runs for 1 academic year. The work placement is unpaid with the goal for successful leaners to secure a paid job at the end of their internship.
