In this Level 2 qualification, you will develop the technical skills to create, produce and promote music and you will gain an understanding of roles within the music industry.

This BTEC Level 2 Diploma is an intermediate qualification for post-16 learners who want to specialise in a specific occupation, occupational area or technical role. It prepares learners for work or an Apprenticeship by giving them the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge, technical and practical skills, and to apply these skills in work-related environments. The qualification also provides progression to Level 3 Tech Level qualifications.

All units are assessed through internal assessment. Internal assessment is through assignments.

  • Exploring Music – You will develop different techniques to create music and produce a portfolio of musical exploration.
  • Professional Development - You will explore professional development needs and present a professional development plan.
  • Self-promotion in the Music Industry – You will develop a professional identity and produce promotional materials.
  • Music Production – You will develop a music project using a digital audio workstation and develop professional practice.
  • Sound Engineering – You will develop techniques in using sound engineering equipment and use sound equipment for a specific purpose.
  • Music Project – You will apply your skills to develop, refine and realise music in response to a commercial brief.

Assessment Types

All units are assessed through internal assessment. Internal assessment is through assignments.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 including English or maths. You will also be required to attend an interview where you should be able to demonstrate that you have an interest in music or music production.

Career Progression

Progression may include a level 3 qualification, an apprenticeship, or relevant employment.

We provide full-time arts education to over 1,000 students every year, from level 1 through to BA Honours degrees.
