This course is subject to validation by Leeds City College.

The Dance Foundation Degree at Leeds City College will train you to become a professional dancer, able to work in a range of contexts, whilst enhancing your understanding of the dance industry. Based in our brand new building, situated in the heart of Leeds’ Cultural Quarter, this practical course is delivered over 24 hours per week. You will have daily technique classes to hone your skills in a variety of dance styles including afrobeat, dancehall, urban and street dance, capitalising on the vast multicultural dance and social scene Leeds has to offer, alongside traditional forms such as contemporary and ballet. Alongside building on your practical skills, you will develop the creative and critical skills to support your progression into the dance industry.

Major performance projects will enable you to work with industry professionals to create and perform new dance work in a number of innovative contexts such as working with animation and computer games, pushing the boundaries in dance, media and emerging technologies.

You will also investigate how dance has helped shape the creative industries in its historical, social and cultural contexts to situate your practice. In this way you will be able to contribute to the exciting future that the profession offers, enabling you to forge a path that fulfils your career aspirations.

We are keen to work with students who want to develop their practice by using a range of dance styles and who are keen to use those styles to develop their own choreography and performance-related work.
