Unit 1 - Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
The aim of this unit is to assess the Trainee Assessor’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices that underpin assessment. It is particularly useful for those people who do not currently have any candidates to assess. To achieve this qualification, you need to complete an assignment and undertake professional discussion with your assessor.
You will gain the knowledge about the principles and practices of assessment through learning, researching and writing the assignment.
You will learn and participate in a variety of assessment methods in the workshops and learn about all aspects of assessment whether your delivery is in the workplace or in a classroom(simulation) environment.
Two training workshops held at the Printworks Campus. The rest is delivered on a one to one basis at a time and place to suit you.
It is recommended that you have a level 3 or above qualification in your subject specialism area and advantageous if you have undertaken an NVQ or apprenticeship previously as this will help you understand the processes of assessment. Although it is not essential.
It is recommended that you shadow a qualified assessor (or assessors) to gain an insight in the work of an assessor and the requirements/standards expected.
It is expected that you have access to your own learners in order to complete some units of the qualification.
