Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices Award Level 4

Following two workshops at the start of the course where you will learn about the principles and practices of Quality Assurance. You will then be assigned an Assessor who will support you for the remainder of the qualification on a one to one basis with face to face meetings arranged at mutually convenient times. You will also receive: 

  • All assessment and quality assurance activities relating to your qualification.
  • Registration and certification fees with the awarding organisation. 

This qualification is aimed at those who internally quality assure assessors and assessment, but who do not manage the centre or other internal quality assurers. It is aimed at:

  • assessors and quality assurance staff involved in National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).
  • assessors and quality assurance staff who deliver qualifications that use the term ‘NVQ’ in their title.
  • Depending on the assessment strategies set by individual Sector Skills Councils, staff who are assessing and quality assuring qualifications that do not use the term ‘NVQ’ in their titles, but whose purpose is to confirm occupational competence. 

These qualifications would be helpful for teachers in schools who deliver vocational qualifications with applied learning, such as BTEC Firsts and Nationals.

What you will study

You will study the principles and practice of quality assurance as it applies to vocational assessment both in the classroom and through tailored workplace coaching. By the end of the qualification you will have developed the skills required to be able to carry out internal quality assurance activities competently. 

Unit 1:  Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment

The aim of this unit is to assess the knowledge and understanding a learning and development practitioner requires for the internal quality assurance of assessment. 

Target groups 

This unit is suitable for anyone wishing to gain knowledge about internal quality assurance. For example, teachers, tutors, trainers, programme managers, course leaders or staff working in quality departments both in private training organisations and colleges of further education. 

Unit 2:  Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment

Credit Value:  6 

The aim of this unit is to assess the performance of a learning and development practitioner with responsibility for the internal quality assurance of assessment. 

Target groups 

This unit is suitable for those who have responsibility for the internal quality assurance of assessment. It would be helpful for any teacher, trainer or course leader, to aid understanding of internal quality assurance processes.

How you will be assessed

Assessment will be through a number of different methods, including:

  • Written questions
  • Oral questions
  • Observation (at least once by your Assessor in your workplace)
  • Witness Testimony
  • Work Product
  • Professional Discussion

 

Entry requirements

Candidates must be over 19 years old to undertake the course.

Ideally making the progression from the Assessor Award to the IQA Award as part of your CPD.

You must have good literacy and numeracy skills. We strongly recommend you have completed either one of the L3 Assessor Awards or the Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (Assessors Award).
