Do you want to coach football to students, adults and communities? This course provides you with a mixture of practical and theory units where you will have extensive periods of coaching football with professional organisations and an opportunity to gain work in Europe and/ or the United States.

The course also includes work experience, where you will go out on placement in schools and clubs. There will be a number of field trips including an optional residential.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D including English and/or ideally maths or equivalent (eg Level 1 Functional Skills). Or satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits.

All applicants must have a genuine interest in working in sport, be prepared to participate in physical activities, work in a team, overcome personal challenges and have an enthusiastic approach to learning. Previous experience of playing and coaching football is an advantage. Applicants must be willing to work flexibly with their placement in order to achieve their work experience hours.

Further information

To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults students you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application. The college will organise this for you, but you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the check is £44. Full details regarding payment and documents required will be provided prior to enrolment.

There is the opportunity to be involved in the Colleges Sports Academies and there will be a number of residential trips taking place throughout the year.

What's next

You can pursue a career in football coaching through direct employment or through an apprenticeship pathway. You can also apply for a level 3 Diploma in Sports Performance and Excellence or the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport.
