You will spend the majority of your college week studying an industry recognised qualification-NCFE Level Diploma in Public Services.
This will include taking part in physical activity, fitness training, teamwork activities, tutorials and volunteering in the community.
As part of the course, you will take part in a number of trips and visits to the uniformed services. These will include trips to West Yorkshire Police Headquarters, Army Barracks, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, Leeds and Bradford Airport as well as adventurous activities such as bouldering, orienteering and kayaking.
You will also have the opportunity to enhance your employability skills by continuing your studies in English and maths if you did not achieve GCSE grade 4.
The NCFE Level 1 Diploma in Public Services course extends over a one-year period. The course is divided into units. Candidates must successfully complete all units to achieve the qualification.
The units are:
Unit 1: Investigate Employment Opportunities in the Uniformed Services.
Unit 2: Wellbeing and Physical Fitness for the Uniformed Services.
Unit 3: Teamworking Skills in the Uniformed Services.
Unit 4: Developing Self- discipline for the Uniformed Services.
Unit 5: Health and Safety in the Uniformed Services.
Unit 8: Participate in Adventurous Activities.
Unit 9: Explore Volunteering and Volunteering Opportunities.
The course involves a mix of theory and practical work. You will be assessed using both practical observations and written assignments to ensure you are making strong progress on the course.
The course is delivered in the classroom and the outdoors. You will also be expected to travel to alternative venues for some activities and events. The course will be delivered at the Quarry Hill Campus.
Students are required to have achieved:
Two GCSE grade 2s including English and maths.
Advice on careers and further study will be given during the course. After successful completion of the course, students may seek employment or an apprenticeship in the public sector or apply for a level 2 course in Public Services.
