Ellie- May Stanyon
Level 3 Health and Social Care student, Ellie-May Stanyon, has been described by her tutors as a caring and ambitious student who has come a long way since her first day in the classroom. Ellie-May tells us more about her interest in health and social care and her plans for the future.
Where did your interest in Health and Social Care come from?
“I grew up looking after my siblings who have disabilities and I wanted to do something that helped others, so Health and Social Care seemed like the perfect option. My nephew was also very ill when he was born and I watched the nurses look after him. During this time, I spoke to them and discovered that it can be a very rewarding career that also has its challenges. One of the nurses told me that some days she would go home and hug her children as her job made her appreciate them even more. I found this very inspiring.”
How has your experience been at the college?
“Overall, it was the best decision of my life. I met so many amazing people and was given so many incredible opportunities, such as doing work experience, which allowed me to expand my skills and really boost my confidence.
“The most enjoyable part of my course was working on a project about teenage pregnancy. As I would like to work with babies, I knew I would come across parents of all ages, so it was a topic I wanted to explore further.”
What are your plans for the future?
“I would like to become a Neonatal Nurse, and would love to work at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the near future.”
