You will develop skills to care for others and the responsibilities of working as a professional in a caring environment.
You will be assessed through your course work.
This course is delivered at Quarry Hill Campus.
16 -18 years old - students will need to have a range of GCSEs at grade 2.
19 years+ - this will be discussed on an individual basis at your interview.
All students will be required to develop skills in Personal and Social Development, Employability, a vocational qualification and Maths, English and ICT. Each student will be invited to an interview where a personalised learning programme can be discussed and agreed.
All candidates must be committed to working in the Health, Social Care or Childcare sector, be caring, creative, energetic, have a sense of humour and a lively and outgoing personality.
To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults, students may need to complete an enhanced disclosure check for the Disclosure and Barring Services. The college will organise this for you but if your course is not fully funded (ie; you are not 16-18 or on certain benefits) then you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the enhanced DBS check is £44. Full details regarding payment and documentation will be provided prior to enrolment.
Due to Statutory Guidelines, If you will be undertaking placements involving caring for children aged under 8, you will need to complete a Disqualifications Requirements questionnaire for yourself and other members of your household. This will be discussed further with you at your interview.
Advice on careers and further study will be given during the course. After successful completion of the course students may seek employment or an apprenticeship in care work or apply for a level 2 course in Health and Social Care or Childcare.
