This Level 5 Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Management is for people with more experience of the human resources function. The course builds on your existing skills and knowledge of human resources to become a more effective HR professional, delivering real added value to your organisation. 

This course is for you if you: 

  • already work in HR or L&D and wish to study a recognised professional qualification
  • want to progress your career by developing your knowledge and skills
  • aspire to become a professional member of the CIPD 

The CIPD is the professional body for HR and people development. It has over 135,000 members internationally who work in HR and learning and development. As a member of the CIPD, you can keep you up to date on the latest developments in people management and development. As a professional body the CIPD supports their members, set the standards for professional qualifications and advise individuals and businesses on how to manage their people effectively and fairly. 

The learning is delivered through weekly group classes with experienced CIPD qualified tutors and guest speakers. An equal amount of independent study and research is expected in addition to the taught hours and there is will be an element of group project work.

What you learn

The course contains 9 modules, each focusing on a core element effective of human resource management and development. The course blends practical application with a deeper understanding of recognised research and theory that informs to develop a broader understanding of the integrated nature of HR.

How you will be assessed

There are no exams on this course. To successfully complete the Diploma students will complete an assignment for each module studied. Assignments can take the form of written reports (approx. 3,000 words), presentations, or group activities and which will be observed. You will also need to demonstrate your ongoing commitment to professional development by keeping up to date plans and records. 

All submitted work has to show academic research and application of theory to relevant work related situations using Harvard referencing and be delivered to a specific time schedule. Guidance will be given on how to prepare and deliver suitable reports and presentations. 

Feedback will be given on all assessed work and students are expected to use the feedback to develop their written and presentation skills further as part of their continuous development as professionals.

Entry requirements

Students must meet one of the following minimum academic qualifications:-

  • A relevant qualification to NVQ Level 3
  • At least two A levels (typically such candidates will also have good personnel, development or management experience)
  • A “Foundation” level qualification from the CIPD (e.g. Certificate in HRP or L&D)
  • A Certificate in Personnel or Training Practice (CPP or CTP) from the CIPD
  • An equivalent or higher level award from nationally recognised educational or professional bodies in a relevant area
