EnChoir and Explosive
EnChoir is a welcoming and inclusive student enrichment choir based in Leeds City College’s Park Lane campus. The choir is open to students across the entire college, from all levels and areas of study, and strives to create an enjoyable and creative environment for students to create valuable social relationships with their peers whilst developing new skills. Enchoir is now entering its second year, and our repertoire consists predominantly of contemporary musical theatre with a focus on close harmonies and high energy, physical performances through song.
We perform frequently, and last year Enchoir travelled to London to perform as part of the Voices Now choir festival at the Roundhouse Theatre and Camden Market. We have also performed at Leeds United’s Centenary Pavilion as part of the college’s Star Awards ceremony and regular community events across Kirkgate Makets, Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey House Museum, Trinity Centre and many more.
This February EnChoir will be competing at the Manchester Amateur Choir Competition at the Northern College of Music, and are in the process of selecting new songs to wow their audience, so it’s an ideal time to join!
We rehearse every Wednesday during term time in the theatre between 2:30 – 3:30pm.
Explosive has been running as an extra curricular class at Leeds City College for just over ten years. We have a new influx of students every September so the current 60+ students attending weekly sessions with Explosive have been dancing together since September 2017.
Explosive have previously performed at the Leeds Town Hall- Student of the year ceremony, Leeds 50th Carnival, Northern School of Contemporary - Community platform and at The Trinity Leeds Event. They regularly perform at the college open evenings as well as taking part in local and in-house performances. Some of our current dancers compete regularly in hip-hop settings with community groups and street crews such as Sheperds Gang, Mythical PSM and DAZL.
Twenty members of the Explosive team were selected to audition and perform at Breakin’ Convention 17’ at The Lowry through an open audition process whereby they each had to create and perform a solo piece of choreography. This was our first time at Breakin' Convention and we loved it so much we are hoping to go back this year!
We rehearse every Wednesday during term time in the theatre between 1:30 – 2:30pm.
