The Access to HE Computer Game Design and Development course allows you to level up your skills in game design and development for creative industries and relevant degree courses. 

The course content is delivered using industry standard software/hardware for 3D modelling and game development. You will be using packages such as Unreal Engine, 3DS Max/Maya, Adobe Suite and Visual Studio.

You will gain knowledge in how to develop an idea from concept to a final computer game covering a range of skills in graphics, 3D modelling, programming, game engines and web design.

The course develops crucial academic skills (such as academic writing, time management, research and analysis) in addition to delivering knowledge of computer games and employment related skills. 

Successful students will gain a qualification in Access to HE (equivalent to 3 A-Levels). Students progress onto a degree course in related fields such as games development, games design or computer programming.

How you will be assessed

A range of assessment methods are used, these include written evidence, practical demonstrations, essays and reports. We also gather evidence via tutor and peer observations. All work is internally moderated and externally moderated by assessors from the awarding body GATEWAY.

The course will be delivered at Quarry Hill Campus.

Entry requirements

You will need enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. You must be 19 years of age by 1st September in the year the course starts and have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 (C) maths and English or equivalent.



What's next

After successful completion of our course you will be able to progress onto our Foundation Degrees in Computer Games or a suitable course at an alternative university.

The foundation degree is the first two years of an Honours degree. You can then complete your Honours degree studying with ourselves by completing one further year.

University Centre Leeds offers progression to the​ degree in Computer Games Design which focuses on industrial techniques and workflows to create Indie Game Creators and Games Artists.
