This course is aimed at adult learners who would like to explore a career path in Engineering and are thinking of applying to University to study a degree in the Engineering field. It will give you the opportunity to update your skill set and re-enter the fast growing engineering job market. 

A few examples of the career pathways are Medical Engineering, Robotics, Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Manufacture Engineering. 

It covers the fundamental skills and knowledge that is used in engineering practices at level 3. This course provides theoretical and practical units.

How you will be assessed

Academic skills units are assessed on coursework. Specialist units can be assessed by a mixture of coursework and formal examination in preparation for university degree courses. All work is internally moderated and externally moderated by assessors from the awarding body Certa.

Entry requirements

You must be 19 years of age or over as of 1st September the year you start the course. GCSE’s at four or C and above in Maths and English. A good base knowledge of Science at level two is recommended (BTEC or GCSE). Pass the pre diagnostic test on Maths and English that is completed at interview.

What's next

The Access to HE Engineering diploma is recognized by universities for entry to a variety of engineering programmes including those at Leeds City College, Leeds, Huddersfield, Sheffield and Bradford.

Following your application to an Access HE course you are strongly advised to research the individual entry requirements for the HE courses and universities you wish to progress to.

The programmes run over 2 full days a week at the Printworks Campus or equivalent and represent an alternative cost-effective progression opportunity within the college.
