VTCT Sports Massage Therapy Certificate (Level 4)

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy course is to prepare you specifically for working in the sports massage sector dealing with injured clients. This course will be delivered two evenings per week at our Printworks campus over 10 weeks. You will need to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy before you can undertake this course.

This qualification will give you the opportunity to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work with clients who have recent non-acute injuries and preexisting conditions. You will develop your massage techniques gained at Level 3 even further, in areas such as corrective frictions and soft tissue release. You will gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology that will aid your development as a massage practitioner.

Employment opportunities upon completion of this qualification exist in various settings, including:

  • Private health clubs and leisure centres
  • Sports centres and clubs 
  • Self-employed environments/mobile and/or home-based settings.

What You Learn/Units

  • Conducting subjective and objective assessment
  • Provide sports massage techniques to prevent and manage injury
  • Treatment modalities to support soft tissue repair

How You Will Be Assessed

The course will be assessed through portfolio evidence, practical instructing and internal assessment. Support and guidance will be given by your tutor.

Entry Requirements

You must have completed the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy or equivalent to undertake this qualification. This includes bridging courses from complementary therapy massage/swedish massage courses.

What’s Next

Once completed you will be able to gain employment as a Level 4 Sports massage practitioner, providing a range of advanced sports massage techniques for recent non acute injuries and for pre-existing conditions. This could be in a range of industries including:

  • Private health clubs and leisure centres
  • Sports centres and clubs
  • Self-employed environments/mobile and/or home-based settings

You can also combine your work with further study with our Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training (Fast Track).
