What you learn

  • Understand and describe enhanced switching technologies such as VLANs, VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Per VLAN Spanning Tree Protocol (PVSTP) and 802.1q
  • Understand and describe the purpose, nature, and operations of a router, routing tables, and the route lookup process
  • Configure and verify static routing and default routing
  • Understand and describe how VLANs create logically separate networks and how routing occurs between them
  • Understand and describe dynamic routing protocols
  • Configure, monitor and troubleshoot ACLs for IPv4 and IPv6
  • Understand and describe the operations and benefits of Dynamic Host
  • Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) for IPv4 and IPv6
  • Understand and describe the operations and benefits of Network Address Translation (NAT)

How you will be assessed

Each of the four CCNA semesters has its own final theory and practical skills test. Both must be passed with a score of at least 70% before you may continue on to the next.

Online materials are provided for studying at home but attendance at each weekly session is compulsory, especially as the course has a strong practical element utilising our Cisco labs.

Entry requirements

This course is appropriate for individuals who are interested in expanding their IT knowledge or starting a career in the industry, particularly as a Network Engineer.

You need to have passed the first semester of the CCNA Routing and Switching course.

What's next

As well as the progression to CCNA Routing and Switching semester 3, we also offer CCNA Security which can be taken after successful completion of CCNA Routing and Switching semester 2.

You may also choose to take the industry certification exam number 100-101 ICND1. Passing this exam will certify you as a Cisco Certified Entry Level Technician CCENT.
