ABC Therapeutic Counselling Diploma (Level 4)

The ABC Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic in Counselling is a higher level course allowing you to progress to work within the counselling sector.

When combined with the ABC Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills, it meets the training requirements for recognition as a qualified counsellor.

This course also contains a minimum of 100 hours in a supervised counselling placement.

After this course you can go on to become BACP Accredited, and able to set up your own counselling practice.

Please note, as part of this course you must undertake Clinical Supervision and Personal Therapy with the additional costs these incur, which are agreed and paid to the Clinical supervisor and therapist who you must contract separately. Further details available at interview.

How will you be assessed?

There are various assessment methods on this course; you will undertake several written assessments and build a portfolio of counselling reflections and experience. The portfolio will be externally assessed. Support will be provided by your tutor.

The theoretical and practice skills learnt at college must be demonstrated through a 100 hour supervised placement in a real counselling work placement.

Prospective learners should be aware, that the course involves experiential learning and self-awareness exercises, which will be demanding of the self in interaction with others.

Entry Requirements

You will need either the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills or a relevant degree and experience in supportive roles.

A good standard of English is necessary, such as GCSE English at C and above, or Level 2 Functional skills, to complete the written assignment of this course. Good communication skills, self-awareness and empathy are also a prerequisite to ensure you can be successful in your work placement when counselling clients.

What's next?

After successful completion of this course you may wish to progress onto a post-graduate study in counselling.

Alternatively, after this course you can go on to become BACP Accredited, and able to set up your own counselling practice, or work within the sector, including the NHS, counselling services or charities etc.
