Online GCSE Maths

GCSE Maths is a one-year, online course which focuses on some of the key elements of maths. You are expected to study for at least six hours each week for the duration of the course and this will be monitored by your tutor. Your tutor will be available to offer support and guidance in addition to providing feedback for your assignments. 

You will need to attend three mandatory tutorials and these will be discussed with your tutor.

What you will study

The online GCSE Maths course offers you flexibility. You can study at times that are convenient for you, as long as you stick to the weekly course calendar. You need to be disciplined and motivated in your approach in order to keep to the deadlines and achieve success in your exams. You are expected to do a substantial amount of work on your own and need to set aside approximately six study hours per week.

There will be regular tests throughout the course, as well mock exams in order to assess your progress.

 

How you will be assessed

The GCSE course is assessed by three externally set exam papers (each 1.5 hours), which are all taken at the Enfield Centre at the end of the course. 

Paper 1 - non-calculator

Paper 2 and 3 - calculator 

The three papers carry equal weighting. The final grade awarded is based on the overall mark gained.    

 

Entry requirements

We expect students to have a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or Level 2 Functional Skills Maths. Adults with no previous qualifications in mathematics are also welcome to apply. 

We require all applicants to complete an online application form, an initial assessment, diagnostics and a short interview. All applicants will also need to attend Leeds City College to enrol. so that we can assess whether the course is suitable for them. We may advise studying Functional Maths first, if appropriate, before progressing to GCSE Maths. 

You also need to have:

  • Be aged 19+
  • Adequate study time (at least six hours per week) for the duration of the course
  • Regular access at home and/or work to a reliable computer with internet connection and a printer
  • Good IT skills and confidence in the use of technology
  • Attend a mandatory induction (Google Classroom)
  • Manage electronic files
  • Upload and/or download an electronic file
  • Utilise emails
