This course combines a detailed introduction in how to get the best from your digital camera with a specialist introduction to taking photographs in a professional studio.

You will, by the end of the course, be able to take dynamic, exciting, eye-catching images that show you have gained the knowledge of how to compose an image in a way that starts getting you noticed by friends and colleagues. 

In the studio you will learn:

  • Production of high and low key portrait and fashion images using studio lighting
  • Production of creative experimental photographic work and image manipulation work
  • Experience of working in a production team in a studio environment
  • Production of a portfolio of work displaying the above techniques

The course is equally suitable for industry employees and career changers who wish to develop a deeper understanding of the photographic art form.

What you learn

The course concentrates on learning camera controls to produce creative digital photography as well as studio shoots where you will learn how to take professional-looking photographs of differing subjects under a variety of lighting conditions.

How you will be assessed

There is no formal assessment but you will produce a body of your photographic of work and will receive a college certificate on completion of this.

Where is the course delivered (facilities / classrooms)

The course runs in the Photographic Department at Park Lane Campus.

Entry requirements

None, but you should have a basic understanding of how a digital camera works and be able to use a computer. We can supply you with a camera to borrow, but it would be useful if you use your own camera if you have one.

The course is equally suitable for industry employees and career changers who wish to develop a deeper understanding of the photographic art form.
