What you learn

During the programme you will gain an understanding of accounting and bookkeeping procedures and will apply manual bookkeeping skills to a computerised accounting system.  You will:

  • Create new accounts
  • Process invoices and credit notes
  • Record and reconcile bank receipts and payments
  • Record customer and supplier transaction
  • Use journals to enter accounting transactions
  • Produce report
  • Maintain the safety and security of data held in a computerised accounting system

You will be using Sage accounting software.  Sage is the market leader for integrated accounting, payroll and payment systems working with 6.2 million businesses across 23 countries.  Sage is a global company with its roots in the North East of England, with its global headquarters in Newcastle, where it first began.

How you will be assessed

Assessment is through a portfolio work and practical assignments. Your course teacher will guide you through the assignment criteria for each area of study and make sure you are prepared to achieve your best.

Entry Requirements

Students wishing to enrol to this programme need to have a genuine interest in accounting practices and procedures, a good level of maths, be able to use IT equipment and have basic computer literacy. You must be able to work independently and to agreed deadlines.

You will be interviewed to ascertain your suitability for the programme.
