MasterChef 2016 finalist and former student, Matt Healy, returned to Leeds City College on 7 and 8 September to officially open Printworks’ new addition to the campus, PrintworksKitchen and Bar.

Situated on the thriving South Bank area of Leeds, the restaurant will be run by students andapprenticeson the college’s Professional Cookery and Food and Drink Service courses under the supervision of industry professional chefs and restaurant management.

Guests were treated on both launch nights to a four-course meal from Matt’s exclusive menu of gazpacho foam, campari cured salmon, beef fillet and raspberry mousse.

Matt Healy said: “As a former student at what was then Thomas Danby College, it was fantastic to be back at Leeds City College and impart some of my knowledge on to these budding chefs.

“I made sure that the students had fun in the kitchen; when you have happy staff, it comes across on the plate. Overall, it was a great experience for me to galvanise the next generation of chefs and give them some inspiration to take away.”

Printworks Kitchen and Bar will replace The Food Academy as the college’s state-of-the-art training restaurant, providing commercial and catering experience to hundreds of students.

Elaine Chambers, Retail Operations Manager, said: “The new restaurant is equipped to give students and apprentices the best start in their food and hospitality journey. We have revolutionised the menu to reflect a contemporary dining offer and prepare our apprentices and students with the complex skills they will need to prosper in the industry. We look forward to welcoming new customers to try out our innovative flavours.”
