A Leeds City College choir has been selected to take part in London’s Voices Now Festival in July. The choir, made up of Musical Theatre, Dance and Physical Theatre students, will join 49 other choirs from around the country to perform in London’s famous Roundhouse Theatre.
The 15-piece choir secured their spot by creating an audition tape of their rendition of Seize the Day from the musical Newsies and have been given two 25-minute performance slots on the festival’s opening day, one in the Roundhouse Theatre and another on an outdoor stage in Camden Market.
The choir have been performing regularly at Leeds’ Kirkgate Market and Kirkstall Abbey in order to warm up before they take to the stage in London. They will also be taking part in Leeds City College’s Star Awards on 28 June.
The fourth biennial music festival, Voices Now, will take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July between 11am and 11pm. It will feature 50 different choirs from around the country and will also see an appearance of several special guest artists.
The Roundhouse Theatre and Camden Market will be filled with singing throughout the day with many different vocal groups performing. There will also be open stages available between 11am and 7:30pm for visitors of the festival to show off their talents for free.
