Former Health and Social Care student, Mica Icrkringill, always wanted to work with children so she enrolled onto a level 3 course at Leeds City College to explore her options and broaden her knowledge.
How was your experience at Leeds City College?
“I loved my time at Leeds City College. I made some amazing friends and the tutors were really supportive. The lessons were fun and interesting and I was provided with an invaluable opportunity to do work experience abroad. On top of this, there were compulsory placements which helped me decide what I wanted to do at university.”
How did the college help you get to where you are now?
“College really helped prepare me for university; we covered a range of different subjects and learnt how to reference assignments - a crucial aspect of university. Going to college also helped me be more organised and independent.”
You’re now at Manchester Metropolitan University studying Speech and Language Therapy. What made you choose this?
“Whilst at college, I had a placement at a nursery which I really enjoyed. The nursery staff spoke to me about their local speech and language therapist and her role within the nursery. I did some research on speech and language therapy which I found interesting. I then attended open days at Manchester Metropolitan University for the subject and knew it was something I wanted to do.”
What are your ambitions for the future?
“My ambition in the future is to work as a paediatric speech and language therapist, in a community clinic.”
