Jamil Ur Rehman:
Foundation Degree Business Management

I consider myself fortunate to study at Leeds City College; similarly, I will consider it an honor to become a member of Leeds City College alumni. Every minute that I have spent on the Business Management Foundation Degree has contributed to my learning and personal development. I believe I have gained more knowledge and skills in a very short span of time than I would have, if I had stayed in my native country.

The most important skills that I have learned are research skills. I think assignments are the best way of acquiring them; in my native country, the emphasis is on the closed book exam. In my opinion, closed book examinations stifle the habit of research as the emphasis is always on rote learning (by heart). This does not contribute to the long-term learning or continuous development of the student. In this context, I think that time spent in College as a whole is part of the learning process and contributes positively to my personal development. The education over here is research-based and has instilled in me the habit of research.

In short, the College inspires me to learn and investigate; to read and question. My personal horizon has been enlarged and the requisite skills needed by a manager are becoming clearer to me. I now comprehend that a manager is not only the head of an organization, but its leader. Therefore, a manager needs to learn to work under pressure and continually gain new knowledge, for personal and organisational growth.

Cherelle Ross:
A-Levels

My name is Cherrelle Ross and I am doing my second year of A Levels at Leeds City College.

I have had a fantastic time while I have been at Leeds City College.
The course is great and the tutors are extremely helpful. They do everything possible to ensure that you understand and are prepared for exams. The staff in all departments of the college are friendly and are always willing to help you with any queries or services you may need. I really enjoy doing My A Levels at Leeds City College.

I enjoy the sciences and I find the teaching of all my subjects is of the highest quality. There is a variety of different teaching techniques to suit all types of learners and additional support is always offered if needed. The college also offers a number of Clubs that you can join and there are different trips organised by the student council.

Leeds is a wonderful and safe city. There are so many things you can do. There are plenty of shopping malls with cinemas and other recreational activities, such as bowling and karaoke. Leeds Playhouse is a great place to watch theater productions. And Roundhay Park is a beautiful place where you can go and have fun with friends, especially in summer.

Luyando Phiri:
Access to Higher Education Business and I.T.

My name is Luyando and I am an international student of Business and Information Technology Access to H.E.

The reason why I chose Leeds City College is because it is located in a multicultural city and the cost of living is not as high as other cities in the UK. As soon as I arrived, the College made sure that I had a smooth transition and that I settled in well, giving me helpful information. The staff have a very positive culture that made me feel a sense of belonging from the first day of registration.

It is interesting to study and to view ideas from different cultures. The diverse culture at the college has allowed me to have the privilege of making friends from around the world. Leeds City College was the right choice for me. It has modern learning facilities, a great learning environment, a library full of research materials and well qualified tutors who give one help if you have any problem in a subject.

I have found great inspiration in many lecturers’ accomplishments and the authority they have in their subjects. I enjoy all the lectures because they relate to modern situations from around the globe and provoke a wide scope of understanding. I have enjoyed every moment of my studies here and I have gained more than just knowledge; I have been developed to think differently.

Tracy Chuma:
BTEC National Diploma in International Hospitality and Tourism

My name is Tracy Chuma. I am currently studying Hospitality as an international student.

The course is very interesting as I get to embrace real life experiences of the industry, through the kitchen and restaurant sessions provided by the College. The staff members are always willing to help you strive for excellence.

So if you were considering applying for a Hospitality course there is nowhere else I would advise you to go except Leeds City College. International or home student, we are all one big happy family…
