About Higher Education at Leeds City College
Leeds City College offers Foundation Degrees and one-year (Honours) Top Up programmes.
2 years Foundation Degree + 1 year (Hon.) Top Up = 3 year BA / BSc Hon. Degree
Foundation Degrees are university-level qualifications like other degrees, but the courses are designed with the help of employers, for a particular area of work. They’re Higher Education qualifications combining academic study with work-related learning.
We have high success rates and our students benefit from our friendly, supportive environment. Class sizes are a lot smaller than universities, allowing you to get the best possible personal support.
But don’t just take our word for it. Read what our students and an independent higher education review body had to say about us:
- 2011 National Student Survey
-
In the 2011 National Student Survey, Leeds City College was third among FE Colleges providing Higher Education, with 88% overall student satisfaction.
This was 10% higher than the survey average. Our success was given to staff ability to make subjects interesting, staff enthusiasm and their skill at explaining things.
- Integrated Quality Enhancement Review
-
In May 2011, we were inspected by the Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency (Integrated Quality Enhancement Review).
Results:
- They were confident in our academic standards.
- They were confident in the quality of our teaching and learning.
- They found that we provide quality information to the public about our higher education.
- The College was recognised for the high quality of its H.E. programmes.
After completing a two year Foundation Degree, you can apply to join the final year of an undergraduate programme at university and complete a Bachelor’s degree. Or, you can apply to study your final year with us, if we offer a Top Up (Honours) in your subject area.
- Academic entry requirements
-
A typical offer would be made to students with Level 3 qualifications (such as A Levels, International Baccalaureate or National Diploma) plus a number of GCSE (Level 2) qualifications at grade C, or above. *
For most Higher Education courses, you must have Maths and English grade C, at Level 2.
* Your country’s equivalent to Level 2 and 3 study is acceptable. If you successfully completed High School or Further Education in your country, you may have achieved Level 3 studies. If you are not sure that your qualifications meet the entry requirements, please send us copies of your certificates and we will advise you.
Please note that some subjects have additional requirements. For example: strong Maths skills are needed to follow a Business Management course, so candidates may need to exceed the min. entry requirement of Level 2 Maths at grade C.
Candidates must show commitment to their chosen Foundation Degree subject. We welcome mature applicants who may not meet the academic criteria, but have lots of experience in a chosen field.
