Further information – choosing a course:
There are some UK Border Agency rules on the level of courses available to international students. Not all courses offered at Leeds City College apply. Click on the link below for further information.
- Guidelines for international students to consider
-
International students must study a full time course.
If you are over 18, you are not allowed to study any course below level 3 – further education. You may only study for three years in total towards any qualification below level 6 (which at Leeds City College means a degree ‘Top Up’ course).
For example:
- You could study a Foundation Degree plus a Top Up (Honours) year with us.
- You could study your A-Levels (or a two-year, work related Diploma) with us and then apply to another institution to begin a degree programme.
- You could study an Access course (or a one-year, fast track Diploma) plus a two-year Foundation Degree with us, then apply to complete a Top Up (Honours) year at another institution.
If you are 16/17 years, you can study below level 3 until you turn 18, by applying for a Child Student Visa. You can search further education courses in the Leeds City College website, but do consider the time you have available to you. You will need to consider your progression onto a level 3 course, once you turn 18. Check the Tier 4 Policy Guidance on the UK Border Agency website for more information about this and if you need further advice, please contact our International Student Adviser: lesley.powell@leedscitycollege.ac.uk
- What the different course levels mean
-
There are three qualification ‘frameworks’ in England, devised by Government. Each course is evaluated to see what demands it places on a learner; the course is then placed at a level within these frameworks. This helps everyone to know what level of learning a student has achieved. The framework means that all qualifications are high quality, and meet the needs of learners and employers.
