Key Skills
‘Key Skills’ are the skills we use in all aspects of our studies, work and everyday life:
- Communication
- Application of number
- Information Technology
- Working with others
- Improving your own learning and performance
- Problem solving
Universities now accept Key Skills and offer UCAS points for these qualifications.
Many students find this very useful as a way of building points to improve their
chances of getting into the university of their choice.
We think Key Skills are so important that we give every full-time student the
opportunity to gain these qualifications during the course of their study. All full time
students have the opportunity to achieve Level 2 in Communication,
Application of Number and ICT.
Key Skills are, therefore, part of your course and attendance at Key Skills lessons
is a requirement which you must fulfil to pass your course.
You will be assessed before your course begins to help you and your tutor decide
if you need extra support to achieve either your Key Skills qualifications or your
main course.
We will provide experienced, qualified staff to support you in English, Maths or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), in small groups either in class or in an extra workshop session.
