Skills for Life

We welcome students of all abilities and recognise that some need specialist support before looking to go onto further education or training for work.
Courses are varied, enjoyable and rewarding and will help you to get where you want to be while providing you with the necessary level of support.
They provide a core programme of skills development while introducing you to college life – you can also choose a course which will bring a specific vocational subject into your studies. In most cases, you can work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
Our staff are dedicated professionals who have the expertise and experience to support people in overcome barriers to learning. They can help you choose a programme of study which meets your specific needs and works towards your future hopes and goals. We hope to give you the experience and confidence to be able to move on to a higher level vocational course.
We offer FREE flexible daytime, twilight and evening courses at local learning centres. Choose when and how often you want to study, and work at your own pace and level.
You can join us at any time throughout the year, and improve your qualifications. We offer some basic computing and can help you prepare for further study, eg. GCSE.
Other support is available including childcare and dyslexia tuition.
Literacy / English:
- improve your basic reading, spelling, writing and communication skills
- gain the new adult qualification in English
- You can take qualifications including the National Literacy Test at Levels 1 & 2.
- After the course you may progress to a wide range of other courses including GCSE English.
Numeracy / Maths:
- feel confident with everyday Maths
- gain the new adult qualification in Maths
- You can take qualifications including the National Numeracy Test at Levels 1 & 2.
- After the course you may progress to a wide range of other courses including GCSE Maths.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL):
- Trinity “Skills for Life” qualifications at all levels (Entry 1 – Level 2)
- improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
- fees subject to status
- citizenship topics are part of the course
