Engineering

Engineering at the College goes right back to the days of the Leeds Institute, through Kitson College of Engineering, Leeds College of Technology and finally up to today at Leeds City College. Engineering courses are now offered at the South Leeds Centre and at the Keighley Harold Town Site.
Engineering is a worldwide industry that touches every part of our modern lifestyle and encompasses a wide range of other sciences and specialisms. The industry requires both practical and academic professionals, who are multi-skilled and will be at the heart of the country’s infrastructure and prosperity.
The department of Engineering offers a range of bespoke modular courses in Engineering/Manufacturing, which are designed for personnel already working in an engineering environment or may want to take up employment in an engineering field. They are intended to provide knowledge of systems available to the modern engineer, with specialist programmes tailored to individual company needs.
Metrology
The Manufacturing Metrology Centre at the South Leeds Centre was established to raise awareness, access and trial the latest precision measuring techniques. The manufacturing metrology centre is able to offer assistance in the following areas:
- Loan or trial of measuring equipment
- CNC m/c Calibration service
- Metrology/Manufacturing Consultancy
- Skills Updating
- Research/Project Work
A major obstacle to the development of measurement systems lies in its high capital cost in relation to the demonstrable business benefit. The manufacturing metrology centre has the resources in place for companies to immediately benefit from the use and application of modern measurement technologies.
This means for the first time companies can ‘try before they buy’. Alongside this unique assistance is a package of wide ranging manufacturing support from initial scoping visits to longer term project interventions carried out by approved manufacturing specialists.
