Apprenticeships

apprenticeships-courses

With an Apprenticeship programme, students are employed from word go and so receive a wage and support from a company that is committed to their development.

Training takes place at work and at college and gives individuals the key skills to enter the work place at nationally recognised standards. Doing an apprenticeship guarantees:

  • Excellent training at one of the best vocational colleges
  • A wage and supportive employer
  • Real experience and understanding of the industry you are working in
  • The opportunity to go on to university recognised industry-standard qualifications

Level 2 Apprenticeship

With this programme, students work towards an NVQ Level 2 and in some areas have the chance to do a technical certificate such as City and Guilds. Once completed, students can either work in their chosen field, or they can move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship.

Advanced Apprenticeship

With this programme, students work towards gaining an NVQ Level 3 and complete technical certificates, like BTEC Diplomas and National Certificates. After completing the Advanced Apprenticeship, students have the option to progress onto a multi or highly skilled supervisory role and a role in professional management.

Students can also move on to Higher Education to undertake a qualification such as a Foundation Degree. By completing an Apprenticeship, students receive an ‘Apprenticeship Diploma’ from the National Training Organisation.

Young Apprenticeship

The Young Apprenticeship Programme offers young people the opportunity to gain a level 2 qualification as well as a taste of real work while learning. The programme is available for all 14-16 years olds who are working towards gaining grades A-C in their English Maths and Science GCSE’s while at school. Combining classroom tuition with practical learning Young Apprentices gain new skills and finish the programme with the opportunity to progress onto a full-time Apprenticeship or other training, and to further learning and employment.

Information for Employers

Apprenticeships are one of the most popular vocational routes for young adults. Many are attracted by the idea of working, earning and studying towards a recognised qualification.

Employers are also finding the scheme an ideal way to train existing staff and look for new employees by approaching colleges and other training bodies who have a high number of suitable applicants to select from. Many applicants are already signed up for the scheme and actively looking for employment or in other instances they may be on full time courses at the college and looking to move into employment.

If you are already providing or expressing an interest in providing a work placement, taking on a new recruit or training one of your own existing employees, we hope the information on this website will help you understand the services and support which we can provide and the key role which you can play in the process.

If you require any further help please contact our Employer Engagement Officer Theresa Thomas (Technology Campus) or Adrian Boyd (Keighley Campus).
