Life in Leeds

With a population of around 700,000, Leeds is the fourth largest city in the UK after London, Birmingham and Manchester. It is one of the most exciting and fastest growing cities in the UK and ranked amongst the top cost effective places to study in the country.

It’s no wonder that Leeds has been consistently labelled the “Knightsbridge of the North” by The Lonely Planet Guide; it is because Leeds boasts one of the best shopping experiences outside London.

Leeds is famous for its thriving music scene and has some excellent music venues and festivals which have hosted some of the world’s biggest names. If your tastes are more classical there are plenty of other places in Leeds for you to be entertained.

Leeds and West Yorkshire have one of the most thriving art scenes in the UK; art galleries, historic sites and sculpture parks in and around Leeds house some of the finest art collections in the UK.

The city hosts the annual Leeds International Film Festival, and you can see some of the best independent films at the Hyde Park Picture House, one of the last few surviving original picture houses in the country. More…

Leeds is well known for its legendary sporting heritage, with teams representing all major national sports and stadiums which feature regularly in the international sporting calendar. Leeds is particularly famous for: Yorkshire County Cricket Club at Headingley Stadium, Leeds United Football Club, Leeds Carnegie (Rugby Union), and Leeds Rhinos (Rugby League).
