Being Green

Leeds City College is working hard to reduce its environmental impact and act more sustainably through developing and implementing an Environmental Management System.

The recent merger of Park Lane College Leeds & Keighley, Leeds Thomas Danby, and Leeds College of Technology provides the opportunity to make an impact on an even greater scale to the furtherance of environmental awareness, sustainability and best practice in the Further Education sector.

The LSC identifies three ways in which the FE system can contribute to sustainable development:
(i) through its management of resources
(ii) through the learning opportunities it delivers
(iii) through its engagement with communities.

Since 2007 and the start of the environmental initiative at the former Park Lane College Leeds, the College has endeavoured to address each of these. This will only grow as the college’s environmental management matures.

As an example of our progress, we have reduced our total waste arising by 40% in two years and increased our recycling rates from 140 kg per month, to 10,000 kg per month.

In recognition of the progress made by the College it was recently short listed for this years Green Gown Awards by the EAUC.
