Functional Skills (Key Skills)
English, Maths and ICT skills are important within all aspects of our studies, work and everyday life.
These skills are so important that we give every full-time student the opportunity to work towards gaining Level 2 English, Maths and ICT qualifications during the course of their study.
We want to make sure that all students have the chance to develop the skills needed to succeed in everyday life, education and in the workplace.
“Functional Skills” are the new qualifications which are replacing the “Keys Skills” qualification.
Functional Skills qualifications:
- are valued by employers and further education
- support you to get a job or progress to higher level courses / university
- help you to use your English, Maths and ICT skills effectively for real purposes in real situations
- develop the essential skills required for work.
Functional Skills qualifications are offered for:
at 5 different levels; Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 & Level 2.
Functional Skills develop the skills you need to succeed on your course and in employment.
If you are enrolled to an Apprenticeship course, Key skills qualifications are still offered. Key skills develop English and Maths and ICT skills and are similar to Functional skills. Key skills include
- Application of number
- Information Technology
Your English and Maths skills will be assessed before your course begins to help you and your tutor decide if you need extra support to achieve either your functional / key skills qualifications or your main course. You have the opportunity to study Functional / Key skills as a part of your main course.
We will provide experienced qualified staff to support you to develop your English Maths and ICT skills.
