Keighley Campus Opens

7 September 2010 | news archive

Keighley Campus, of Leeds City College, opened its doors to its first ever intake of students on Monday (Sept 6th) after two and a half years under construction.

All courses from the former sites on Cavendish Street and Harold Town have relocated to this impressive new £35m five storey 13,000 sq m (140,000 sq ft) building right in the heart of town on Bradford Road, which boasts exciting new provisions and facilities for the local community as well as staff.

To mark this momentous occasion, Keighley Town Mayor Coun Ian Wilson was invited in to unveil a special plaque in the campus library.

Coun Wilson was joined by Kris Hopkins MP for Keighley, Senior Deputy Principal Nigel Davies and Vice Principal and Campus Manager Paul Cox as well as college governors and representatives from key partners including Bradford Council, the education sector, community groups, BAM Construction and architects Bond Bryan and Turner Townsend.

The group also had the opportunity to take an ‘out of this world’ tour around the impressive STAR centre, which has relocated to the new campus.

Prior to opening, close to 1,800 people, including present and potential students, councillors, local residents and members of the business community had the opportunity to preview the new campus through a number of launch events and open evenings.
