Great Yorkshire Show

16 July 2010 | news archive

The annual Great Yorkshire Show took place this week (13th-15th July) and Leeds City College were very well represented!

Over the course of the 3 days around 125,000 visitors came along to the showground, including the Princess Royal, and many stopped at the college’s stall next to the Game Cookery Theatre in the Outdoor Pursuits zone.

Staff from Marketing, Catering & Hospitality and Landbased areas were on hand to do demonstrations and displays and chat to passers by about the college and what we offer.

The reaction was very positive – especially when visitors were encouraged to try free samples of Farthings breads and chutneys or win a plant from the Horticulture and Conservation team!

Next door, Gordon Sibbald and David Sowden from Thomas Danby Campus compered in the cookery theatre, which included appearances from various prominent local chefs and TV chef Rosemary Shrager – who also helped the college by conducting our prize draw.

Steven Knowles, Marketing Events Manager, said:

As the third biggest college in the UK, and a leading educational centre for the county, the Great Yorkshire Show is a key event for us to be involved in. It is the biggest event of it’s kind nationally and gives us a perfect platform to showcase our very strong status in the world of Landbased Studies – not to mention our excellent reputation in the field of Culinary Arts – to a wide and diverse audience. We had a successful stall this time round and it is practically on the doorstep so I look forward to developing our involvement in future years.
