Flock to See Colourful Exhibition of Life-Size Sheep

14 June 2010 | news archive

A forthcoming art exhibition housed at the College’s Keighley Campus is hoping to get people flocking to see its colourful life-size sheep sculptures.

The Keighley Arts Factory (KAF) will be unveiling its very own flock later this month as part of its Shorn Keighley arts project.

The fun project, funded by Bradford Council through the Local Heritage Fund, launched in October last year, with the aim of encouraging visitors to the KAF and the town itself by filling the area with model sheep.

The KAF is the town’s only contemporary art gallery, showcasing cutting edge art and hosting a number of annual exhibitions.

The sculptures, 10 in total, which are based on the Yorkshire Mule breed of sheep, have all been painted in the style of famous artists ranging from Monet, Van Gogh and Hockney to Beryl Cook and Banksy.

Businesses, organisations and community groups in the town have all got behind the project either sponsoring a sheep or helping to decorate them, ably assisted by a local artist.

Five of the flock have been completed and the remaining sheep are having their finishing touches put to them in time for a special exhibition to open its doors to the general public from Friday, June 18-Wednesday, June 30.

“This type of project is quite unique for a small town and our sheep have great wow factor – each one is completely different and very individual,” Project Manager Rifat said.
