Students Down on The Farm to Bring Classic to Life

8 June 2010 | news archive

The audience will literally be going down on the farm as part of a forthcoming college production of a George Orwell classic.

Close to 20 students, currently on the second year of a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts at Thomas Danby Campus, are involved in a musical interpretation of Animal Farm, which is to be performed in the main barn at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm,

For this promenade performance running from Tuesday, June 15th-Thursday, June 17, the location takes on a starring role, with the audience seated outside on hay bales, weather permitting, while the action takes place framed by the huge cow shed door.

This is a powerful, fast-moving musical interpretation of Orwell’s classic satire and the farm creates a perfect backdrop for the performance, giving a realistic, multi sensory experience for the cast and audience alike,” said Acting Tutor Paul Danby.

A summer barbeque will be served up on-site during the interval and visitors can also call into the farm shop, bistro café and visitors centre on-site.

* Tickets, priced £5, are available from the Arts & Media dept at the College’s Thomas Danby Campus, in Roundhay Road, or by contacting 0113 284 6220. All performances start at 7:30pm.

Fellow Final Art and Multimedia students will also be in the limelight with an Art Exhibition and Film Screenings of their work at Seven Arts, Leeds, on Tuesday June 15th and Wednesday June 16th.

The official opening is from 6 – 8pm on June 15th, with a screening of films from 8 – 9.30pm on the same evening. The art exhibition will remain open throughout Wednesday, June 16th from 10am-8pm. Admission is free to both events.
