Students Organise Bakery Awards Ceremony

27 May 2010 | news archive

A group of enterprising hospitality students are organising an awards ceremony to recognise the achievements of their fellow bakery students and raise money for a good cause, as part of National Craft Bakers’ Week (June 7th – 12th).

The students on the Level 3 Btec National Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism at Thomas Danby Campus have organised the ceremony as part of their studies. The awards will be given on 7th June to Year 10 and year 11 students who come to college to learn bakery alongside their studies at school.

The students have also enlisted the support of renowned pastry chef and baker Thierry Dumouchel, who will be satisfying the guests’ sweet cravings with a pastry and chocolate demonstration at the event. The awards ceremony will be followed by a raffle and all money raised will be donated to NSPCC, a cause chosen by the students due to its work with disadvantaged young people.

Student organiser Emma Crabtree said: “We have enjoyed organising the event and are looking forward to the evening. We are all eager to see the result of our hard work and to support the NSPCC, which is such an important cause.

The total will be added to the £224.67 raised for NSPCC recently by the year 11 bakery students who ran their own bakery business in college for a day, and donated all the proceeds from sales.

A limited number of tickets are available for the awards ceremony at £3 each. Contact bakery tutor Louise Niles on louise.niles@leedscitycollege.ac.uk for details.
