Trainee bakers at Thomas Danby Campus are sharing ideas with their counterparts in the Far East as part of an on-going international project.
In the second phase of a working partnership, a group of Bakery/Food Manufacturing students are spending 10 days in Thailand, based at the University of Kasetsart, in Bangkok, from March 12th.
As part of the Young Enterprise Project established in 2008-09, food and drink students from both countries are sharing good practice and entrepreneurship in areas such as new product and recipe development through a series of visits to each institution. They also have to rise to the challenge of looking at the possibility of developing a ‘fusion’ style product which will have market value in both England and Thailand.
The students, accompanied by Bakery tutor Joe Cavalier and International Recruitment Officer Danlu Liu, will also be visiting industries in the area and the Institute of Food Research and Product Development.
They will then return to Leeds with guests from the University of Kasetsart who will be spending time in college as well as going out on industry visits to Dumouchells and Manor bakeries in Barnsley.
